5 Questions Courageous Leaders Ask When Implementing Change

Published: April 2, 2026

Pastors and ministry leaders around the globe feel stuck, just like Jhonatan and Yohanna Rojas. They need tools to navigate conflict and bring change for the sake of God’s mission.

In the church the Rojases serve, change was necessary to bring healing to a divided congregation and reorient them around the mission of God. But change often brings fear and a sense of loss. Through PLI, Jhonatan and Yohanna were equipped with practical tools to help them lead with humble confidence through the congregation’s varied responses to change.

Acknowledge Fear & Loss

When fear festers, it often surfaces as anger, resistance or divisiveness. Unaddressed loss can lead to apathy and disengagement. These responses can create distance between leaders and the people they serve.

By anticipating these responses, leaders can address concerns before conflicts arise. During times of change, it is important to acknowledge fear and loss and create space for people to be heard.

Listen & Communicate

At times, people have hesitations because they see something we may not. When leaders are willing to be humble, listen well, and recognize the wisdom others bring, they grow in how they lead change.

Communication is key. Courageous leaders cast vision, take time to explain what is changing and what remains unchanged. They listen with curiosity, celebrate the past with gratitude, and bless and affirm the future.
