When leaders align their lives and leadership with the mission of God, they lead with greater clarity and courage. They equip the people in their churches to reach their communities with the Gospel so more people are connected to Jesus.
Today, PLI trains pastors, spouses, and ministry leaders across six global regions: Africa, Asia, Eurasia, Europe, Latin America, and the US & Canada. Through local leaders and trusted partnerships, PLI training is adapted to each context with a consistent purpose: equipping leaders to lead the mission of God.
Four questions that shape missional leaders
Grounded in scripture and shaped by more than 25 years of experience, these questions provide leaders with a proven roadmap for aligning their lives and leadership with the mission of God, leading change, uniting and engaging people in God’s mission, and developing more leaders.

Living and leading God's mission
Leaders reflect on how their life, marriage, and ministry align with the mission of God—restoring people to God and one another through Jesus. Through scripture-based training, they grow in character, clarilty, and Christ-centered leadership that others want to follow.
How do I lead change for the sake of the mission of God?
Leading change
Leaders learn how to navigate and lead change in their lives and ministries with clarity and courage. They gain practical tools to help inward-focused congregations become mission-focused churches.
How do I unite and engage people around God's mission?
Uniting people
Leaders learn how to bring people together and engage them in the mission of God. PLI equips them to follow Jesus’ pattern of relationships with God, one another, and those without Christ so disciples grow and more people become disciples of Jesus.
How do I raise up and multiply leaders to expand God's mission?
Multiplying leaders
Leaders learn to recognize, develop, and multiply new leaders in their local ministries. As new leaders grow, they influence others to join the mission of God, and more people are connected to Jesus.
Ministry was always meant to be lived together
PLI training is intentionally relational. Leaders grow alongside the people with whom they share life and ministry—learning from one another, strengthening relationships, and discovering that leadership and ministry were never meant to be lived alone.
Ministry couples learn and grow together
When possible, PLI trains pastors and ministry leaders alongside their spouses. Couples have the opportunity to learn, reflect, and grow together, strengthening their marriage and aligning their lives and leadership with the mission of God.
Leaders learn in community
PLI training takes place in cohorts where leaders learn alongside others who understand the joys and challenges of ministry. Through conversation, encouragement, and applying biblical principles to their lives and leadership, relationships deepen and leaders grow together over time.
Leaders equip people in their local ministry
PLI training extends beyond the individual leader. Leaders are equipped to bring people together around the mission of God and help them discover how they can participate—so the mission of God is lived out together in their local ministry and community.
What participants are saying
Kari and Rev. Patrick Rooney are PLI alumni living in Oregon. After a District President recommended PLI, the Rooney’s started their journey with the singular goal of equipping them for new opportunities and challenges in their congregation. Along the way, they uncovered that while change can’t be forced, an environment and opportunity for it can be embraced. They discovered together that God’s been equipping them to share their lives and to be a safe space for their three children, their community, and their congregation in order to experience God’s unconditional love and grace.
I’m very thankful for the teachings we get from PLI. Pastors are thinking about the mission of God and realizing what they have to do. We’ve been able to plant three more congregations thanks to this training. And others in the training are planting new congregations and showing people the way of God. If these evangelists get this PLI training, I believe their ministry will flourish because they’ll have the ability to evangelize people in their local communities. Many people will be invited to Christ.
Kristi and Rev. Terry Baughman are PLI alumni. They live in Michigan, where Terry is pastor at Crown of Life Lutheran Church and Preschool and Kristi is principal at Lutheran High School Northwest. Why PLI? We had discussions with other PLI alumni about how their ministry together and marriages were impacted. The PLI experience has helped give clarity of our walk with Jesus through the struggles that we face in our ministry, family and marriage in our day-to-day life.
