Would Your Church Include PLI’s International Training in its Missions Budget?

It’s a busy time around PLI!

U.S. Learning Communities met in North Carolina last week. There’s one in Chicago this week, with more to follow in the Twin Cities, Lincoln, Houston, Tampa and beyond.

Dr. Scott Rische is just back from a month with Rev. Artis Eglitis in Latvia and Rev. Emmanuel and Lillian Makala in Tanzania, Burundi, and Cameroon.

1,000 Young Leaders launches another cohort to disciple young champions for their generation in a few weeks.

Leadership Essentials has a new cohort starting in Lincoln, Nebraska, in April.

We are engaging in a pursuit of more intentionally connecting PLI alumni together in community. (If you’d like to help, please contact Tara.)

And, we are planning a special webinar on May 16 to share the growth and impact of PLI International over the last 20 years. Put it on your calendar, and register here.

Here’s the question we ask: “What is it that God is asking PLI to be responsible in doing?”

I have a very specific request for you and your congregation!

You know the church in Africa is growing very rapidly. We see the people of God sharing in the mission of God. (Which is much different than the western church model!)

PLI has partnered with the Mekane Yesus Lutheran Church in Ethiopia for many years, and more recently, with their brothers and sisters in the Kale Heywet church. Both have 10 million members. A few months ago I shared the request from the leaders of Kale Heywet to train 10,000 new pastors and their spouses in the next 5 years!

Would your church consider including PLI’s international training in its foreign mission budget?

Under Scott’s vision and leadership, our international training is growing very rapidly.  Mostly, as you would imagine, in Africa. One country after another hears the testimonies of leaders that have been profoundly impacted by PLI’s biblical leadership training.

In 2020, we trained 677 leaders in 8 countries.

In 2021, we trained 1126 leaders in 11 countries.

In 2022, we trained 2245 leaders in 16 countries.

This year, 2023, we anticipate training 3400 leaders in 25 countries.

….with 17 more invitations in 7 different countries that are waiting for PLI to come their way!

“The number of new requests to start or expand PLI is humbling, and sometimes feels overwhelming. But we know and believe that, if God is the One who is making PLI grow, He will also provide the people and financial resources to say yes to those requests.”

Rev. Dr. Scott Rische, PLI INternational Director

As God continues to use this training around the globe, would your congregation consider…

  1.  Including PLI’s international training in your mission budget, OR
  2. Gather a special offering that would provide immediate support to this work

If you have questions, please contact Rika Beckley, National Director of Donor Engagement, OR email me or reply here in the comments.
