Relationships Lead to Jesus: A Story from China

Earlier this month, Scott and Lori Rische, leaders of our international work based in China, were able to baptize their friend Eva. Through her relationship with the Risches and other believers, God cultivated curiosity about Jesus that eventually led Eva to come to faith.

“Lori and I got to know Eva (her English name) through my involvement with an English speaking Toastmasters Club,” Scott said.

Eddie, a mutual friend of Eva and the Risches through the same club, had already come to faith and was baptized in 2015. Eddie’s faith is growing rapidly. He led translations for the PLI training in Shenzhen, China, this spring.

Eva was searching for meaning and direction as she faced some major life challenges. “Knowing the three of us, Eva began asking questions,” said Scott. Starting from the friendship they shared, they wrestled with these difficult questions. “Eventually, Eva’s searching led her to attend a small group that meets in our apartment and occasionally attend the church where Lori and I worship,” Scott said.

Eva’s curiosity about her friends’ relationship with Jesus led her to find the answers for which she was searching. “After about 8 months of deep spiritual conversations, the Spirit moved in Eva’s heart, and she came to believe and asked to be baptized,” says Scott.

On Friday evening, June 10, Eva was baptized. Jesus used the friendships with the Risches and Eddie to bring Eva close to him. And for this we celebrate.

Would you join us in praying for Eva as she begins her walk with Jesus?

Pray too that God would open conversations with Eva’s friends who are still far from Jesus.
