We all desire authenticity, yet it’s hard to find in our culture today AND — dare I say? — even harder to find among Christians or in the church. It’s difficult to share Jesus with your friends or co-workers without coming across as judgmental, hypocritical, or religiously irrelevant.
So how do you live an authentic life of faith in Jesus in today’s context? Let’s explore one place to start.
1,000 Young Leaders believes that living an authentic life starts with a humble spirit.
When we live from a posture of humility, we have no agenda to push, and people see us as genuine and trustworthy. These are core building blocks of authentic relationships.
A humble posture can be created. Start by listening to people’s stories with curiosity. Seek understanding by asking questions, genuinely caring about what they have to say. You’ll discover that, as you listen with curiosity, you’ll often start to see areas where you can love and support them.
This listening space may provide you an opportunity to share your story. So be honest. Don’t lead with the Pinterest perfect life. Be vulnerable about the messed up parts of your life and how God has shown up for you and sustained you in both the good and bad.
As you listen to people’s stories with curiosity and humbly share your story, you build honest, authentic relationships.
Your friends and coworkers are searching for the things of this life that are real and true. Honestly, we all are. YOU can be an authentic experience of faith in action among those in your life. YOU can create real community with depth and substance.
If this strikes a chord with you I’d love to have a conversation about how 1,000 Young Leaders can assist you as you seek authentic relationships that lead to conversations about Jesus.
