Exploiting Opportunities

Opportunities abound for most of us, for most of our congregations.

Seriously!  But, most of us and most of our churches find it difficult to exploit those opportunities.  A gap exists between what we say we value…and what we actually value!  Leaders and churches oftentimes know it, believe it, but just don’t act on it.  We’ll save the personal “gap” for another time.  But what about your church? How would you measure its willingness to take appropriate risks and exploit opportunities?

My friend Dr. Jim Galvin maintains that churches are oftentimes crippled by delayed decisions or crippling compromises due to an ineffective organizational model.  He’s an opportunity exploiter.  He helps congregations become opportunity exploiters.

Dr. Jim Galvin Quote

Congregations miss opportunity when saddled with a poorly functioning governing model.

Read The Five Types of Governance help you and your leadership make a simple diagnosis and take steps of improvement so you can better exploit the opportunities God is placing before you.

So… share this with a trusted leader or two and simply ask:

  • Are we even aware of the opportunities God is placing around us?
  • Are we still willing to take risks for the sake of the Gospel?
  • Are we being served well by our organizational structure? Or do we need to make some improvements?

Leaders lead! They don’t duck. Even with the messy stuff of boards and structures!
